Tattoo history isn’t just flash and legends. It’s tools, sweat, and the people who figured out how to make the craft better.
Back when most of us started, making needles was part of the job. You’d group, solder, shape, and pray those needles and bars were straight when solding and every now and then swear off making needles forever.
Enter Marc Lescarbeau the man behind @needlejig He didn’t just sell needle jigs, he helped popularize the tools and methods that made quality needles consistent and repeatable. The round & curved mags we swear by? That theory traces back to what he worked on.
We often talk about new artists who don’t know how to make their own needles.
But why that matters shouldn't be to shame we want them to see connection with the craft, with the hands and minds that built the foundations. This is the history that teaches, respects, and bridges generations. (My hopes)
Huge respect to @needlejig and @weekend.hack for the work he’s put in, the conversations he’s had at conventions, and the tools that helped so many of us do better work.
